Superdigital was a digital financial service launched by Banco Santander aimed at promoting financial inclusion by providing a simple, fully digital prepaid account. It offered users an easy-to-use mobile app that allowed them to open virtual accounts, access physical and virtual prepaid Mastercard cards, send and receive money instantly, pay bills, and manage their finances without needing a traditional bank account. The service targeted unbanked and underbanked populations, making digital banking accessible through smartphones, with a focus on convenience, low fees, and financial empowerment across several Latin American countries.
In the Mendoza area, Superdigital gained attention for bringing digital banking options to a region where many people traditionally relied on cash or limited banking services. It provided residents—especially younger users and small business owners—with a modern way to manage money, make purchases, and transfer funds locally without visiting bank branches. However, despite some uptake, the service struggled to reach widespread adoption in Mendoza’s competitive financial environment, where local preferences and existing banking relationships remained strong. This contributed to Santander’s decision to eventually discontinue Superdigital in Argentina, including Mendoza, while focusing on other markets.
