TVCatchup was a free ad-based internet TV platform, which despite its name, re-broadcasted live FTA TV channels that could be received on mobiles, tablets, media centres, laptops & PCs. It did not use channel numbers (LCNs).
From 17 September 2013 the service returned to its roots by providing access to 'catch-up TV' via BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5, for its web version only. On 2 October 2013 TVCatchup announced the removal of 21 channels from ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 including time-shifts pending a high court case. The main PSB channels from these broadcasters remain though. TVCatchup as a substitute, provided links to the respective broadcaster's own live streams and said that they would seek to restore the channels over time by 'negotiating acceptable terms' with the broadcasters. TVCatchup shut down for the final time in 2019 after an EU copyright ruling in 2017.
